Mr. Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry, Pakistan Foreign Service (1980)
Serving as Ambassador of Pakistan to the Netherlands and Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) since March 2009. Member of the Foreign Service of Pakistan with 28 years of experience in bilateral and multilateral diplomacy.
Served as Additional Foreign Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Islamabad (2008-2009), dealing with Pakistan’s relations with India and other South Asian countries. Has been actively associated with the peace process with India, including the Composite Dialogue. Earlier served as Director General for South Asia (2007-2008).
Represented Pakistan in the Programming Committee of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) (May 2007-Jan 2009). Led Pakistan side to several meetings of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) as Director General in charge for OIC, and organized Islamic Conference of Foreign Ministers hosted by Pakistan in Islamabad in May 2007.
Represented Pakistan in the United Nations for over six years (2000-2006). As Pakistan’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, he participated in inter-governmental negotiations on several issues of concern and interest to Pakistan. Also chaired UN parleys on a host of important issues. Served as Political Counselor in Pakistan Embassy in Washington, USA (1999-2000). Facilitated expansion/re-structuring of Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) during the nineties when he served as chef de cabinet to the Secretary General of ECO (1991-97) Served as Director Foreign Secretary’s Office and worked in various administration and political directorates. Also participated in India-Pakistan Foreign Secretaries level talks in 1997-98.
Served as Third/Second Secretary Pakistan Embassy in Doha (1984-87). Also served as language trainee at the Embassy of Pakistan, Cairo, Egypt (1983).
